New Tool To Determine HRA Affordability

Starting on January 1, 2020, employers will be able to help their employees pay for qualified medical costs–such as premiums for an Individual Marketplace plan–through a new individual coverage health reimbursement arrangement (ICHRA). An ICHRA is an alternative to a traditional group plan that allows employees to select their own plan on the individual market.

To help agents and brokers assist their group clients in determining whether an ICHRA offer is considered affordable for purposes of avoiding the employer responsibility payment, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services published the ICHRA Employer Lowest Cost Silver Plan Premium Look-up Table.

The table allows users in states participating in the Federally-facilitated Exchange (FFEs) and State-based Exchanges on the Federal Platform (SBE-FPs) to access individual market Qualified Health Plan (QHP) LCSP data by geographic location.

The Premium Look-up Table and corresponding data dictionary have recently been updated for plan year 2020. To view the updates, visit: https://www.cms.gov/CCIIO/Programs-and-Initiatives/Employer-Initiatives/Employer-Initiatives.html
