An important message on January 2011 New Business Rates for Small Groups

A letter from:

Dear Valued Producer,

In this ever-changing business climate, we appreciate your role in bringing Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL) products to the marketplace. It is of the utmost importance to us to continue to build upon our joint efforts to bring cost-effective products and services to you and your clients.

In an effort to bring affordable coverage options to the market, in addition to a rate reduction already included for January 2011, we are implementing an additional 4 percent rate reduction for January 2011 new business effective dates. This reduction applies to both new regulated* and new non-regulated small group (2-150) health business.

This change will be applied at the Underwriting rate offer stage – once the group has been submitted for Underwriting approval and a rate offer has been presented. For new business quotes received for January 2011 effective dates, you should apply a 4 percent reduction to the rates shown, as this will be the rate that applies for the group.

Please note that this additional reduction will be automatically included for February 2011 effective dates and beyond.

In the upcoming weeks, we will be sharing news regarding the expansion of our BlueAdvantageSM HMO network and additional strategic pricing changes that will further enhance our products for all small group employers.

If you have any questions, please contact your BCBSIL sales representative or general agent for more information.

Thank you for your continued support!

Sincerely,

Dieter Freer
